Brunel Faris Biography

1937-2005

Brunel Debost Faris (1937-2005) was a native of Oklahoma City who received his MFA in Painting from the University of Oklahoma. As an artist, teacher and arts administrator, Brunel Faris was closely involved with the arts in Oklahoma for 40 years. A founding member of the Oklahoma City Arts Festival and the Oklahoma Visual Arts Coalition, Faris was Chairman of the Art Department at Oklahoma City University and Director of the Nona Jean Hulsey Gallery in OCU’s Norick Art Center. Brunel participated in numerous exhibitions and competitions in the United States and abroad. His work is represented in the Oklahoma State Art Collection, the Fred Jones Jr. Museum of Art in Norman, The Philbrook in Tulsa, Oklahoma City Museum of Art, Oklahoma City Arts Council, the Mabee Gerrer Museum, the Melton Collection, the Tulsa Performing Arts Center, as well as in many private collections in the United States, Mexico, Israel, Germany, France and Italy.
