Linda Schaefer Biography

Linda Schaefer is a photographer and writer by trade, but an artist by intuition. Recognized by respected magazines and newspapers, her work has appeared in The New York Times, Catholic Digest, Time, and Newsweek, GQ, The Lost Angeles Times, and Stern to name a few.

She began her career as a journalist for Cable News Network in 1985, but found she couldn’t lose her love-still photography and documentary work. This passion stems from her childhood in Brazil, and led to the Amazon. Schaefer’s search as an artist has always entailed listening to her inner voice. Whether documenting the poverty of a slum in Kolkata, India or an ancient graveyard. The unifying theme is an eternal spiritual wisdom, which unites all as one.

In 1995, Mother Teresa invited Schaefer to India, thousands of photographs later, she published Come and See: A Photojournalist’s Journey into the World of Mother Teresa. In 2013, Schaefer completed a second book that gives compelling accounts of Mother Teresa’s 50 year history as leader of the Missionaries of Charity. Schaefer resides in Ada, Oklahoma and is on the faculty of East Central University in the Mass Communication Department.
