JRB ART AT THE ELMS PRESENTS
“Light, Landscape, and Literature”
OKLAHOMA CITY, Oklahoma--- JRB Art at the Elms welcomes three concurrent exhibitions featuring Thomas Batista, Michele Mikesell, and RC Morrison. All three solo exhibits will open on Friday, July 5th with an opening reception from 6:00-10:00pm during The Paseo Arts District’s monthly First Friday Gallery Walk.
Captivated by light and color, Thomas Batista who was born in La Guaria, Venezuela began painting as a young boy. Batista’s, upcoming event “Colorscape” will depict colorful recollections of Oklahoma landscapes. Batista, has taught art at the university level, and recently opened the Batista School of Art, in the Paseo Arts District. Devoted to art education for all ages; the Batista School provides a motivational and supportive environment for students to explore their artistic potential. Batista received a Master’s Degree in Art from Oklahoma City University and has studied at Atelier Nazaret Charitas in La Guaria Academia de Arte Power and Universidad Simon Bolivar in Carcaras, Venezuela. Batista’s has been widely exhibited in the United States, as well as internationally, and is held in private and public collections.
Michele Mikesell’s work has been exhibited at many international art fairs including Scope, Dallas Art Fair, Red Dot London, Art Santa Fe, Singapore, and New York. Paint as color and paint as matter are the primary driving forces of her work. Currently, Mikesell lives in Dallas, Texas where she works full time in her Oak Cliff studio. The collection of figurative painting which will be shown at JRB Art at The Elms is “Fishers of Song,” a collection of figurative portraits of concealed individuals inspired by Sam Walter Foss a 19th century poetry. Mikesell earned her Bachelor of Fine Arts from Texas Women’s University in Denton, Texas and completed her Master of Fine Arts at the University of Oklahoma in Norman.
Tulsa artist, R.C. Morrison’s work with color and artificial light involves the interplay of the LED, acrylic plastic and found objects. Morrison’s creations at JRB Arts at The Elms are from two series titled “Lean” and “Broken.” The “Lean” pieces mix two colors emitted by the LED, revealing a third color not found in the LED spectrum. “Broken” deals with confinement, namely broken plate glass in a clear acrylic box lit from below by red and blue LED. Morrison is a native Oklahoman, and has degrees from Oklahoma State University. Morrison became involved with light emitting diodes (LED) about 5 years ago.

JRB Art at the Elms presents a divers roster of emerging, established, and internationally exhibited artists who create in a wide range of media, including paintings, drawings, sculpture, ceramics, glass, fine crafts, functional objects, fiber art and photographs. This 8,000 square foot, award-winning gallery in Oklahoma City’s Paseo Arts District changes its exhibits monthly in a gracious environment that fosters a dialogue between the arts and the larger community while providing quality art for first time buyers as well as individual, corporate and museum collections.
JRB Art at the Elms, the former home of Nan Sheets which was built in 1920, is located at 2810 North Walker and is open Monday through Saturday, 10-6, and Sunday 1-5.
