JRB ART at The Elms to Feature “NATURE” in July

OKLAHOMA CITY, OKLAHOMA----JRB Art at The Elms will have two concurrent solo shows, entitled “NATURE” featuring sculptor Don Narcomey and painter Liz Roth for its July exhibition. The shows open on July 4th during the First Friday Gallery Walk, in the Historic Paseo Arts District. The opening, which is open to the public at no charge, is from 6-10:00 pm. “NATURE” can be seen throughout the month of July.

Don Narcomey, whose large wood sculpture, “ROOTS,” is part of the permanent collection of the Myriad Gardens and whose carved wooden furniture has been featured on HGTV is a former instructor at the University of Central Oklahoma.  Whether sculpting in clay, stone, or wood Don’s process is organic. His purpose is to identify, release, and enhance the natural beauty and design found in nature. “Don’s sculptures speak to the viewer,” says Joy Reed Belt, Director of JRB Art at The Elms. “They reach out to us and while we look at them we abandon all that is not natural.” The Gallery will be showing a variety of Don’s work including standing and table sculptures, wall hangings, and carved objects.

Liz Roth, an accomplished painter, who is on the faculty of Oklahoma State University, will be showing a series of large paintings and two drawings of the Grand Canyon. Liz, who once spent a year traveling across the United States completing a painting every day, seeks to probe differences in a direct visual experience and looking at the same thing through the artist’s eye. ‘’ While many photographs and paintings have been done of the Grand Canyon over the years Liz’s paintings are different,” says Joy Reed Belt. “She is an accomplished painter who has absolute mastery over her medium and is very interested in the relationship between humans and the natural world,” Belt said.
