“FINDING CLARITY”

Oklahoma City, Oklahoma ---“FINDING CLARITY,” an exhibition of acclaimed photographer of architecture, Judith Turner, will open on First Friday, September 5th at JRB Art at The Elms in the historic Paseo Arts District and run through September 27th., Turner’s work has been featured in many publications and is in the permanent collection of several institutions including: The Getty Center, The Guggenheim Museum, The Whitney Museum, the Eastman House Collection; the International Center of Photography, The Tel Aviv Museum and the Tokyo Metropolitan Museum of Photography.

Turner, who began taking photographs of buildings in 1972, has published seven books featuring the work of the world’s leading architects.  She is currently completing a book of the buildings of Dame Zaha Mohammad Hadid.  Buildings designed by Hadid include the Eli and Edythe Broad Art Museum, the Phaeno Science Center in Wolfsburg, Germany; the Contemporary Art Center in Cincinnati, Ohio; BMW Central Building in Leipzig, Germany and the Bridge Pavilion in Zaragoza, Spain.

In describing her photographs Turner says: “I do not consider myself an architectural photographer; I am not documenting buildings.  Rather, I am a photographer who uses architecture as subject matter.” Credited with “revealing relationships that are not readily apparent.” Turner states that “the relationships I produce may not be apparent to other people, but they are to me.  They are not forced or preconceived in any way. I Iook at each building individually as I attempt to reveal some of the structure, essence and poetry intended by each architect.”

Also showing in September at JRB Art at The Elms are the abstract paintings of Ellen Moershel. Moershel is an artist native to Norman, Oklahoma. She attended the University of Oklahoma, graduating with her BFA in Painting and Sculpture in May 2010. After graduating, she immediately moved to Halifax, Nova Scotia. Recently, she returned to Oklahoma to work out of her studio in Norman. Ellen has worked in many mediums including sculpture, painting, and print making. She now works primarily in abstract painting. She has exhibited work in several shows in Oklahoma and Canada.
