THREE BOLD SOLO SHOWS ARE FEATURED IN

AUGUST AT JRB Art The Elms

Oklahoma City, Oklahoma…Jim Keffer, Robert Peterson, and Michael Hatcher. Three different artists, three different genres, three different mediums, but all three using third degree color will open August 7th at JRB Art at The Elms. There will be an opening reception from 6:00 to 10:00 pm during the The Paseo Arts District’s monthly First Friday Gallery Walk.

Jim Keffer, a native Oklahoman, who is known for his primitive Southwest landscapes will present “Boundaries: Oklahoma and Texas.” This self-taught artist who is influenced by Van Gogh, Gauguin, Matisse, T.C. Cannon, Jim Wagner, and Fritz Scholder attributes his skills to Mother Earth and Father Sky.  His technique of painting his canvasses red before adding his huge blue skies filled with puffy clouds over the plains, desert, and mountain streams with occasional houses, barns and windmills, and dilapidated buildings, make the images glow and come to life.  The viewer is transported to a time when everything was a little bit slower and a little bit simpler. Jim has won awards for his paintings and his handmade furniture and his work has been acquired by collectors in several states.

Learning about art mostly from hip hop, Robert Peterson became interested in the famous artists whose names rappers mentioned in their songs, John Michael Basquiat, Picasso, Salvador Dali, and Frieda Kahlo; as well as pop culture icons: Nelson Mandela, Elvis Presley, and Mohammed Ali. Robert started researching the personal stories of these icons.  They became inspirational figures in his life. Robert who at that time was working in the Goodyear Plant in Lawton suffered a serious injury one which could have altered his life. Once again Robert thought about his influences and decided to start painting them. Never having painted, Robert had briefly attended the Parson School of Design and had a good sense of color and design.  The past three years have been extraordinary for Robert’s career. His work has been collected by Gabrielle Union, Tyson Beckford, Kevin Durant, Lil Wayne, Amar’e Stoudemire and Floyd Mayweather.  His work has been shown in New York City and at Art Basel in Miami Beach.

Abstract artist Michael Hatcher earned his BFA from the University of Oklahoma and currently works at the Fred Jones Jr. Museum. Michael is very interested in graphic design, computer aided design, and working with wood and special finishes.  His paintings are often geometric and sculptural.  His visual content is minimalistic and pops with color.
