JRB ART AT THE ELMS CELEBRATES

THE NEW YEAR WITH ‘WHITE’

OKLAHOMA CITY, Oklahoma---JRB Art at The Elms will welcome 2014 with its 11th annual New Year’s Day exhibit and celebration from 11:30 a.m. until 2:30 p.m., Wednesday, January 1, 2014. The exhibit, “White”: a selection of paintings, photographs, constructions, collages, and sculptures that explore all the nuances of the color white.  This exhibit will also be featured during the Paseo First Friday Gallery Walk from 6:00 until 10:00 pm, Friday, January 3, 2014.  The exhibit will run through January 29, 2014.

On New Year’s Day, as is the Gallery’s custom, guests will be encouraged to enjoy complimentary champagne, black eyed peas, ham, assorted salads, dips, sandwiches and pastries while feasting their eyes on spectacular artwork.

“White,” with its various shades and tonalities, has been a constant theme in modern art history since the early 20th century. Our exhibit will include two primarily white photographs mounted on Lucite by Joseph Mills.  George Oswalt’s painting, a large oil on canvas, “Subliminal Minimal #2 is a white color field painting. Jennifer Hustis will be showing mixed media paintings in which the white has been contrasted with a dark background.  John Wolfe has created a series of 5 mixed media sculptures all done in the various shades of white. Carol Beesley’s painting; “Paint Chip Mountain” was influenced by all the Martha Stewart paint chips that have the word, “white” included in the name of the color.

R.C. Morrison has created 5 LED sculptures for the exhibit and Ford Beckman will be showing one of his large white target paintings in the show.  Harolyn long has created a large white ceramic sculpture of a fish mounted on a metal base which will be shown with one of B.J. White’s abstract white acrylic paintings. Beth Hammack is presenting three heavily textured mixed media paintings in the various tonalities of white. Rea Baldridge has painted a masterful white abstract painting while John Brandenburg and Behnaz Sohrabian have used the human figure as the context for their paintings.

Other artists who will be featured in the show include: Sohail Shehada, Greg Gummersall, Barbara Broadwell, Michele Mikesell, Holly Wilson, Denise Duong, Debby Kaspari, Jim Keffer, and Michi Susan.

JRB Art at The Elms presents a diverse roster of emerging, established, and internationally exhibited artists who create in a wide range of media including: paintings, drawings, sculpture, ceramics, glass, fine crafts, functional objects, fiber art and photographs. This 8,000 square foot award-winning gallery in Oklahoma City’s Paseo Arts District changes its exhibits monthly in a gracious environment that fosters a dialogue between the arts and the larger community while providing quality art for first time buyers as well as individual, corporate and museum collections.

JRB Art at The Elms, the former home of Nan Sheets which was built in 1920, is located at 2810 North Walker and is open Monday through Saturday, 10-6, and Sunday 1-5.
