JRB Art at The Elms to Feature the Artwork of Three Noted Oklahoma Artists

Oklahoma City, Oklahoma---In May, JRB Art at The Elms will feature three artists working in decidedly different media in three concurrent solo exhibitions.  The opening reception will be held on May 2nd, the First Friday in May, from 6:00 to 10:00 pm during the Paseo Gallery Walk. The work of these artists: Beth Hammack, John Wolfe, and Doug Hoke can been see though out May as well as during the three day Paseo Arts Festival which is held on Memorial Day Weekend.

Entitled “Better than Wallpaper,” Beth Hammack’s new body of work primarily consists of her large trademark abstract paintings.  These layered masterpieces utilize her signature technique of drawing, painting, and applying texture into a sea of swirling color with the strategic placement of geometric shapes. Beth, who was an interior designer before becoming a painter has the ability to visualize how her work will look in various spaces and uses that imagery to inform her work. Influenced by Cy Twomby and adamant that abstract paintings by definition have no orientation, Beth wires each painting so that it can be hung vertically or horizontally.

For this Exhibit, John Wolfe, a former teacher, has created 15 mixed media sculptures, which he calls “Sentinels” ranging in size from 18 to 24 inches.  These figures are created out of carefully curated parts of furniture, ceramic elements and steel. John’s sculpture is an interesting combination of the profound and the whimsical.  His recognized ability to successfully manipulate the ordinary and the discarded into interesting and thought provoking work has gained him regional acclaim.

An Award winning news photographer and Director of Photography for the “Oklahoman,” Doug Hoke has a highly trained and eclectic eye.  He sees what most of us don’t readily see.  In his debut solo exhibition at JRB Art at The Elms, “North of Reno,” Doug will be presenting black and white photographs of architectural elements of selected Oklahoma  buildings located North of Reno in downtown Oklahoma City.  Through Hoke’s discerning and expert images we will explore the DNA of each structure much as the architect did when he designed the building.
