“BLACK, WHITE AND COLOR” SHOWING AT THE ELMS IN JUNE

Oklahoma City, Okla. – JRB Art at The Elms’ June exhibit will feature Plein Air Landscapes by Colorado artist, Karl Brenner and photographs by internationally acclaimed photographer, Connie Imboden. Brenner will attend the opening reception on June 6th, 6-10 p.m., during The Paseo Arts District’s monthly First Friday Gallery Walk. There will also be a special reception for Connie Imboden from 5:30 to 7:30 pm, June 12, 2014 at The Elms. At that reception Connie will give an Artist Talk and sign copies of her latest book, “Reflections.”

Living and painting landscapes in and around Durango, Colorado has occupied Karl Brenner’s life since retiring from surgical practice to paint full time. Karl states: “Capturing the special color harmonies, the interesting perspectives in nature, and the changing seasons keep drawing me back outdoors to paint on site.” He explains why he is compelled to paint Plein Air “Despite the gusts of wind which blow down my easel and the freezing temperatures which occasionally render my oil paint too stiff to use. Karl constantly seeks “That rare moment when everything comes together, and a worthwhile “heartfelt declaration” happens.”

In a statement by Curator, A.D. Coleman, about Connie Imboden’s photography, Coleman refers to a famed musical analogy by Ansel Adams in which he stated, “in the hands of a photographer who utilizes the interpretative potentials of the printmaking process in photography “the negative is the score, the print is the performance. This is true of Connie’s scrumptious prints.” The photography that will be seen in the exhibition at The Elms will feature Connie’s “straight shot” unclothed human figures reflected in mirrors and/or submerged in water. Connie Imboden’s photographs are in the permanent collections of many museums including: The Museum of Modern Art in New York, The Baltimore Museum of Art, The National Museum of American Art, The Bibiotheque Nationales in Paris, France, Ludwig Museum in Cologne, Germany and many other public and private collections throughout Europe and the Americas
