JRB ART at The Elms to Feature “THE SYMBOLS WITH IN US” in August.

OKLAHOMA CITY, OKLAHOMA----JRB Art at The Elms will have two concurrent solo shows, entitled “THE SYMBOLS WITH IN US,” featuring the new work of mixed media painter and photographer Janet O’Neal and the feminine form paintings of Behnaz Sohrabian for its August exhibition. The shows open on August 1st during the First Friday Gallery Walk, in the Historic Paseo Arts District. The opening, which is open to the public at no charge, is from 6-10:00 pm. can be seen throughout August.

As a twenty-eight year veteran of the art scene and based in Santa Fe, New Mexico, Janet O'Neal’s work has received critical acclaim in festivals and exhibitions throughout the country.  She is represented by prestigious art galleries and top publishing companies.  Her works include paintings, mixed media assemblages, photography and sculpture; however she is most famous for her energetic abstract works and multimedia assemblages.  In this exhibition, Janet introduces a new body of work of feminine faces and photography in 2D and 3D mixed media assemblages and encaustic works.   “Janet's continuing desire to experiment fuels an excitement about her future,” says Joy Reed Belt.  “Experimentation has been the reason her work continues to evolve, keeping an ever growing following of clients and corporations.”  Janet has traveled to Israel, Jamaica and India in the past several years, photographing people and places for her new art.  The most current work revolves around photography, traditional digital photographs and mixed media works where photography is the dominant media. Janet has just won 2nd place and two honorable mentions in the prestigious Georgia O'Keefe Museum's International Photography Competition, as well as several other international awards.

Behnaz Sohrabian, a survivor of the Islamic Revolution, the Iran-Iraq war and the Green Movement during her youth in Iran, deals with the feminine form, often somewhat veiled, in her untitled mixed media paintings.  Behnaz received her first Bachelor of Science in Applied Chemistry at Azad University, followed by a second Bachelor in Fine Art at Alzahra University and a Master Degree in Art Studies at the University of Art.   She immigrated to Oklahoma to be near her sister.  The identity of humanity is often questioned in Behnaz’s work.  “The influence of her political and social undertakings as a young woman manifest themselves in the multi-layered nature of her paintings,” says Joy Reed Belt, Director of JRB Art at The Elms.  “They reflect the uncertainties of life while searching for stability and greater understanding in an ever so slowing changing world.”
